Workers' Rights are Civil Rights
Joining together, hand-in-hand, to fight for what's right for our brothers and sisters: Justice. Safety. Fairness. Freedom from fear and access to the righteous promise of America. That was what the Civil Rights movement of yesteryear was about. And it's what a modern day civil rights battle is about, too. The Employee Free Choice Act is not just a labor issue. It truly is a civil and human rights isssue. It's about the right to pursue happiness and the American dream, the ability to raise a family and leave a legacy by being able to bargain for a better life.

1960 Civil Rights Movement
www.ondeckvideo.com An interesting clip about the civil rights movement during the 60's. Busing, Segregation, Sit-ins and Arrests The Civil Rights Movement received an infusion of energy when students in Greensboro, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; and Atlanta, Georgia, began to "sit-in" at the lunch counters of a few of their local stores, to protest those establishments' refusal to desegregate. These protesters were encouraged to dress professionally, to sit quietly, and to occupy every other stool so that potential white sympathizers could join in. Many of these sit-ins provoked local authority figures to use brute force in physically escorting the demonstrators from the lunch facilities, others were "peaceful."

Rand Paul's Statement: Civil Rights Act of 1964
I wanted to make this video to fight misinformation and give the truth behind Rand Paul's remarks on the Civil Rights Act and Legislation of 1964. Note: I tried to handle this issue carefully, because it is very sensitive, but just to be clear: I DISAGREE with Rand Paul's original comment and I SUPPORT the Civil Rights Act. Civil Rights are necessary and should be mandated by the government, even to private businesses. Hopefully, even libertarians would agree with that. Resources: CNN and Yahoo My commentary has been highly debated, but I assure you, as in my other videos, I remained true to the highest level of academic integrity in my research and speech.

ROSA PARKS (MOTHER OF CIVIL RIGHTS)
Civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks is remembered as a courageous woman whose defiance in the face of segregation helped inspire the architects of the civil rights movement and set an example for generations to follow. She saw the inherent evil in segregation and she had the courage to fight it in its common place, a seat on a bus. Rosa Parks, a former seamstress, became the first woman to lie in honor in the Capital Rotunda, sharing the tribute bestowed upon Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy and other national leaders. This informative program chronicles the life of Rosa Parks.

Civil Rights Movement Tribute
A movie about the Civil Rights Movement. Before i carry on, i must stress that this clip has some serious cases of racism in it. I for one, do not condone racism, i think it is wrong, and am simply putting this video up to show the cruelty that once was. I am white, yet i do NOT think that black people or any other race are lesser, worse or anything demeaning than my own race. If racism offends you in any way, do not proceed in watching this video. Okay, so this video was played at my school. Even though the song is Bloody Sunday (U2), i think that it fits perfectly. Racism is still in the world - help to get rid of it! The Jim Crow Law - A law that separated black people from the white, yet them being still equal. However, most black accomadations, schools, and more were 'poor' compared to the white people places.

Civil Rights & White Southern Grievance: GOP Governor Haley Barbour's New Fake History of The South
From anti-lynching and civil rights bills in the 50s and 60s, it was 'the party of Lincoln' that used the rhetorical cover of 'states rights' to hold minorities down. Of course a rare species then known as Southern Democratic senators joined in, but as any student of the 1957, 1964 and 1965 civil rights laws knows, a large majority of Democrats voted yes and a large majority of Republicans voted no. The consequent rise of minority voting and representation -- and laws against discrimination in the workplace, coupled with affirmative action -- have changed the face of America...to the point that even President George W. Bush had to support extending the 1965 voting rights Act in 2005. READ MORE -- tinyurl.com

Remembering Civil Rights Activist Dorothy Height
Dorothy Height (BA '33, MA '35, HON '75) taught us to fight hard, privilege justice and equality, and see the beauty in every human being. A leader of the African-American and women's rights movements, she worked alongside prominent civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr., and helped organize the historic march on Washington. After being rejected by Barnard, which had met its two Negro quota, Height took the subway down to Washington Square, and was admitted that afternoon. "From that day forward I have loved every brick of that university," Height wrote. In 2005, Height was awarded NYU Alumni Association's Eugene J. Keogh Award for Distinguished Public Service. The award was conferred upon her in Steinhardt Dean Mary Brabeck's office, who interviewed her for this video.
